33 or 99: what the count changes
What the number of beads changes, and which strand suits whom.
The two most common strands are 33 and 99 beads.
A 33-bead strand sits more comfortably in the hand, fits in a pocket and is the usual choice for everyday use. It generally weighs between 25 and 45 grams.
The 99-bead strand is the classic form; with more beads it is both longer and heavier. It is often chosen for collections and as a gift.
Bead diameter changes the feel directly. At 8 mm a strand feels slim and light, while 10–12 mm gives a fuller grip.
The choice of head and tassel is purely a matter of taste; a silver head pulls the centre of gravity downwards and keeps the strand balanced as it runs.
